Rose Barr

October 3, 1931 — August 28, 2020

Rose Johnson Barr, age 88, of San Antonio, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ in the mid-afternoon hours of Friday, August 28, 2020 at home, in the loving care of her beloved family. Rose was born on October 3, 1931 in Blytheville, Arkansas.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was active in various church activities. Rose attended Richard B. Harrison High School and remained a faithful member of the Harrisonites Alumni Association. After High School she married her H. S. Sweetheart, Charles L. Barr, in 1949. And they became proud parents, of Ronald, Bruce and Charlotte. In 1967 the marriage ended, however, their friendship remained strong until his passing. Rose was a loving mother who always made time for her children and neighborhood children, by taking them out for fun and cultural outings.

Rose was a devout Christian woman and mother who was affectionately know as, “Other Mother,” by those who knew her best. Rose was a nurturing mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her beloved family. She enjoyed reading the Bible, studying art and history, listening to music and poetry. Those that knew Rose will always remember her love of eating great food. She would tell people that she had an, “international stomach,” because she loved food from all around the world. Rose leaves behind a legacy of faith, dedication and love that will live on in the hearts of those she knew and cherished.

Rose inspired others with her love of the Lord, wisdom and biblical knowledge. She studied the Bible intensely over the years. She was patient in listening and offering guidance on most any subject and shared her experiences of failures and success. She was a kind, peaceful, but feisty Christian that would get your attention and respect. You could call on her anytime, but not too early! And she would guide you with good, Godly wisdom and morals in making your decisions or resolving conflicts.

Being the eldest of all her sisters and brothers, she was always concerned about how family was doing in St. Louis, Chicago, Iowa or Virginia.

Rose is survived by her two children, son, Ronald Barr of Hammond, Indiana and daughter, Charlotte Barr, of Schertz, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffery Parks and Charria Barr-James; great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Parks, Kennedi Davis, Kensington Parks, Journey Parks, and Luke James; siblings, Apostle Charles G. Wright, Jr., (Apostle Stephanie, of Virginia), Pastor Cora Lee Barber (Apostle Leonard), Carmalita Robinson, Johnny Wright, and Alexander Wright, all of St. Louis; and a host of other relatives and very special friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her son, Bruce James Barr, her sister, Samella Johnson Moore, mother Marguerite Wright and father Samuel Johnson, and adoptive parents, Reverend Johnny J. and Margaret Johnson.

Rose leaves behind a legacy of service through her spiritual contributions to those whom she encountered. Her cherished memories will continue for years to come.
