Ninfa Gonzalez

Ninfa T. Gonzalez, age 96, of San Antonio, passed away in the mid-evening hours of Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Regent Care Center in San Antonio.  Ninfa was born on October 27, 1924 in Del Rio, Texas, the only child of the late Paz and Micaela Ramos Tellez.  Ninfa grew up very close to her mother, a relationship that grew closer with each passing year throughout her life.  As a child, she moved around a lot following her fathers work eventually moving to San Antonio.  She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1943 and enjoyed her time as a “Blue Jacket”.

Ninfa was a wartime bride, having married Joe R Chavez in 1943.  After living one week as newlyweds, he left for war and did not return home for 3 years.

Ninfa was a lady of vast wisdom and was always there for her beloved children.  In 1960, Ninfa bought a home on Medina Lake, a trip that she would enjoy taking for decades to come.  Many of her best memories were made at the home on the lake.  Ninfa loved fast cars and enjoyed spending time with her family, swimming, skiing, gardening and landscaping.

Ninfa is survived by six children, Norma D. Ruston, and husband Lonie, Jose “Roy” Chavez, Jr.,  and wife Beatrice, Gloria Grohman, Richard “Rick” Chavez, Rosemary Chavez, and Edward Chaves, and wife Pat; by 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchildren and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.

She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Joe R. Chavez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 11, 2020 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church with graveside services to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M.
