It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marvin Ray Koehler, 88, of San Antonio, TX. Marvin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 23rd, 2023, due to natural causes. He will be deeply missed and always remembered by all who knew him.
Marvin was born on November 17th, 1934, to Emil Clemens and Emma Biesenbach Koehler in San Antonio, TX. He met Lucille Clara Allen and they were married on January 28, 1954 and began a family soon after.
He worked at Kelly Airforce base as an instrument installer in airplanes, then hired on as a switchman for the Southern Pacific Railroad where he later retired in June 1988 after over 30 years of employment. Later on he became a wine maker for Alamo Farms Winery. With these professions, his admiration grew, and these became his lifelong hobbies.
Marvin was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. His family and friends meant more to him than anything else in the world. Marvin was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father who always put the needs of others before his own. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic in us. He was always there for us, whether we needed help with a school project, such as UIL competitions, building an Egyptian pyramid, the Great Wall of China, or the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre from scratch. He always taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. Our father was a source of inspiration to us all and he will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
In Marvin's early years, he could be found racing cars or practicing his marksmanship. Marvin was a passionate craftsman, and he was only limited by his imagination. He could be found in his workshop at all hours of the night devoting his time to HO model railroading, RC planes and trucks, and building all of the accessories. He was very methodical, precise, and built everything from scratch. He had an amazing photographic memory and always built everything to scale without the use of measuring devices. Marvin was exceptional at woodworking, manipulating metal, and welding. He also had a great love for the outdoors where he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed hunting, gardening, and tending to his beehives. He was a strong advocate for the NRA and the 2nd amendment.
Marvin was predeceased by his parents Emil Clemens and Emma Biesenbach Koehler, his bother Roy Koehler, his wife, Lucille Clara Koehler, and his granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Jessup. He is survived by his youngest daughter, Kimberly Rae Koehler, her husband Homer Javier Acosta, and by his eldest daughter Sheree Lynn Jessup and her daughters, Shavonne Renee and Stephanie Nicole Jessup.
