Margaret Gibbs Freeman, age 96, passed away peacefully April 8, 2021 in the care of the loving staff at Arden Courts of San Antonio. Her friends know her as Peggy and close family always called her by her Grandmother name…Gimpie. Peggy was born on April 5, 1925 in Galveston, Texas to Ellen and Harry Gibbs. After catching a young man’s eye while riding a Ferris wheel with friends, Peggy and Douglas J. Freeman married May 30, 1944. Doug preceded her in death in 2009.
Peggy loved to spend time with her family. She had a “fear of missing out,” long before that was a popular saying. She was spontaneous and enjoyed being on the go with both family and friends. She loved traveling with Doug, and best friends Jean and Martin Harris, selling their Fly- By-Night Antiques across Texas and Louisiana. Peggy was known for being a sharp dresser, made possible by her love for shopping with family and friends.
Peggy is survived by her children Lou Freeman Mangold and husband Larry Mangold, Rene Gibbs Freeman and wife Paula Freeman; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. A recent five generation picture taken will be treasured for years.
Her life will be celebrated with immediate family on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 10:00 am at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas.
