Kerry Cain

April 5, 1940 — May 21, 2020

Kerry Graham Cain, age 80, of San Antonio, joined his Father in Heaven on Thursday, May 21, 2020 after a lifetime dedicated to spreading the Word around the world.  Kerry was born on April 5, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Luther Graham and Charlene Riley Cain.  Following high school, Kerry joined the United States Army where ironically, he served through bootcamp in San Antonio, the place he would call home in the later years of his life.

Kerry married the love of his life, Tommie Franks, on February 13, 1962 – her birthday and the first day of the rest of their lives.  Their love brought into this world generations of children and grandchildren who were built on the Gospel and by the hands and hearts of two people who exemplified love and compassion.  After more than 58 years of marriage, and a lifetime of memories, she survives to carry on the love he has shown to so many, for so many years.

Shortly after his time in the military, Kerry began to hear the call to the ministry.  He answered the Lord as a Church of Christ preacher who served his church and the Lord for more than 50 years.  His ministry saw time as a missionary in New Zealand and the Ukraine, West Palm Beach and Lake City, Florida and several stops along the way in Texas before he retired to enjoy time with his family.

Those who knew Kerry best will always remember the love he had for three things – the Lord, his beloved family, especially his grandkids, and eating.  Kerry was a lifelong daredevil who loved roller coasters and anything to get his adrenaline going – he went skydiving for his 60th birthday. When Kerry wasn’t searching for the next rush, or answering his calling to preach, he was often found entertaining those around him with funny stories, jokes and pranks to lighten up the spirits of even the gruffest of souls.

Kerry is survived by his beloved wife, Tommie; children, Kelly Overbey, and husband Chris, of San Antonio, Kevin Cain, and wife Sheila, of Katy, Texas, Sean Cain, and wife Alyssa, of Roscoe, Texas, and Sally Howard, and husband Charles, of Kyle, Texas; grandchildren, Haley Holland, and husband Zander, Devin Howard, Paden Overbey, Garret Overbey, Peyton Cain, Megan Cain, Maggie Overbey, Tate Cain, Cooper Cain, Hudson Cain, Deacon Howard, and Bayley Howard; one sister, Pauline Willingham, of Dallas, Texas; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.

Kerry was also preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Graham, and one sister, Sally K. Cain.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.  7735 Gibbs Sprawl Road, San Antonio, TX 78239. 210-599-2035.
