Jesse Vela Harris, born May 6, 1946, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, left this world peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on January 2, 2025, in San Antonio, TX.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary J. Harris, his two sisters, Linda McLamb and Diane Brockton, brother Michael Harris, and his 5 children: Beverly (James), Jennifer, Patrick (Julie), Paul, and Rick (Stacy). Jesse was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Harris.
He treasured his 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Jesse dedicated his life to service, fulfilling duty to both God and Country. He served in the U. S. Army as a Sergeant First Class, Ward Master in his tour of duty in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, as well as stations in Hawaii, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and retiring in San Antonio, Texas. Jesse was guided by his faith as a devout Christian and heeded the call to be a servant leader. He valued being an active member of the church and community. Jesse led young boys in their faith journey as a Senior Royal Ranger Commander at Victory Assembly of God and lent his uplifting voice to the choir at Live Oak First Baptist Church.
