James Shumate

James K. Shumate, 56, of Converse Texas, passed away on May 8, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. James was born in Tipton, Indiana to James T. and Bonsella Shumate on March 26, 1962.  He attended high school at Junction City High School, in Junction City, KS and graduated in 1980. He worked as a Manager for Intown Suites for over 15 years.  James enjoyed working on his yard and house and loved football and was a dedicated fan of the KC Chiefs. James is preceded in death by his grandparents, Taylor and Ethel Shumate, Luther and Floretta Miller, and 2 uncles Luther Miller Jr. and Freamon Shumate. James is survived by his wife, Arlene Shumate of Converse TX, his son James T Shumate II.  His parents James T and Bonsella Shumate, sisters Floretta Shumate-Kelley and Sirena Shumate-Finch, nephews Stuart Shumate and Taylor Finch and nieces Amanda Atherton and Sydney Finch and 1 Great Grand-Nephew Gunnar Shumate. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Mays Clinic / MD Anderson San Antonio and all our friends and family that have prayed and sent well wishes.

A visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Road, San Antonio, Texas on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 15th, at 10:00 a.m. Committal will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park the same day.

GOD SAW HE WAS GETTING TIRED

God saw he was getting tired

And a cure was not to be,

So he put his arms around him

And whispered, "Come with Me."

With tearful eyes

we watched him suffer

And saw him fade away,

Although we loved him dearly

We could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating

Hard working hands to rest,

God broke our hearts to prove to us.

He only takes the best.
