James Charles Dreher, Jr. was born February 19, 1950 to James C. and Wilodean B. Dreher in Columbia, South Carolina. Growing up, he lived in Columbia and Greenville, S.C., Harlingen and San Antonio, Texas. In 1969 he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio and joined the United States Army in 1971 to honorably serve his country. His job in the Army was in Avionics Flight Control where he worked on helicopters. His assignments included Ft. Polk, LA; Vietnam, Ft. Riley, KS; Ft. Meade, MD.; Hanau, Germany and Ft. Sill, OK. Shortly before his deployment to Vietnam in 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Karen Epperson. They shared their lives together for twenty eight years and had two children, Courtney Elizabeth, and James Julius. After leaving the Army, James received an Associate of Arts Degree in Business and Electronics from St. Philip's College. He worked as a supervisor for UA Columbia Cablevision and Rogers Cable when cable television was first launched here in San Antonio. He also worked for the North East independent School District. He had several hobbies that he enjoyed. He was most passionate about his interest in "Old School" R&B music. He played rhythm guitar and keyboard, sang and wrote both music and lyrics. He enjoyed performing onstage with his band members. He loved hunting and fishing as well as being an avid firearms enthusiast. He had a fondness for motorcycling from the time he was a teenager up until a few years ago. He looked forward to yearly gaming trips to Las Vegas with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Dreher, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Wilodean B. Dreher of Columbia, S.C., his children Courtney Dreher-Greening (husband Richard Greening) of Wake Forrest, N.C. and James J. Dreher of San Antonio, TX, ex-wife Karen Dreher of Converse, TX, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service is to be held on February 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd. San Antonio, TX.
