Ivo Henry Graeve passed away peacefully in his home from complications of congestive heart failure on October 4th, 2016, at the age of 82. He was born to William A. Graeve and Stella O. Hodapp in Emmitsburg, Iowa on November 17, 1933. Ivo enlisted in the United States Navy in April, 1952 and served on the USS Hollister until his Honorable Discharge in 1956 and earned the Navy China Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He met Sally in August of 1956 and they married in September of 1959 at the Foursquare Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Ivo worked with Armstrong Tire Company in Des Moines for twenty-nine and a half years as an industrial electrician. Upon his retirement in May 1988, he and Sally moved to San Antonio. Ivo was a Sunday school teacher and served on the board of several churches. Ivo was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved college football. He loved going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. He often volunteered to be a referee, umpire, team agent and volunteer. He was even known to "break his neck" to get to a baseball game this year! He was also a board member of the Grandview Little League. Ivo is survived by Sally, his wife of fifty-seven years, daughters Clara Ruth Peak (Randy) of San Antonio, Texas, Loretta Joy Stokes (Jeff) of Cibolo, Texas, a son Ivo Timothy Graeve (Melissa) of Spring, Texas. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John Daniel Graeve. Ivo was the oldest of seven children and is survived by all of his siblings; brothers Jerry and Don Graeve,and sisters Darlene Kellogg, Mary Ross, Junie Gookin, and Karen Moore all of Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd, San Antonio, Tx 78239. A funeral will be held at Victory Assembly of God, 1017 W. Byrd, Universal City, Tx 78148 at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:45 PM.
