Ismael Hernandez, Sr.

Ismael Hernandez Acevedo was called home by our Heavenly Father on April 11, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born April 7, 1933 to Ramon Hernandez and Filomena Acevedo Rios, in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his children, Maria Ramirez, Ismael Hernandez Jr, Nestor Hernandez, and Oscar Hernandez. Preceded in death by his wife Maria Josefina Hernandez and his grandsons David Moses and Javier Alejandro.  His grandchildren Vanessa, Carlos, Gabriel, Leslie, Lennis, Alexis, Andria and eight great-grandchildren.

Ismael grew up in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, with a Bachelor of Education at the age of 20 years old. He went on to earned dual Master Degree in Education and Psychology. In 1954, he was drafted and proudly served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army. After his military service, he became a School Teacher, Principal and Director of Department of Education for the Arecibo, Puerto Rico region.

Ismael worked 21 years as a civil service employee of the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston as Instructional Systems Design Specialist. He retired in 2006.

Ismael was an intelligent, humble and spiritual man that loved to educate and help anyone in need. He was loved and admired by many. He was a family man, loyal friend and mentor and will be missed by all. If you were blessed to have the privilege to have him in your life, you know that this earth was a better place with him in it. Ismael will live in our hearts, minds and will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Saint Monica Catholic Church, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
