Isabel Alvarado

July 8, 1930 — May 12, 2021

Isabel Alvarado, age 90, of Converse, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at the Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Isabel was born on July 8, 1930 in Seguin, Texas to the late Juan and Maria Riojas Garcia. She was one of 6 children who grew up learning the value of a hard day’s work and the skills vital to raising families and being able to provide.

Isabel married the love of her life, and her best friend, Robert Alvarado, Sr., on March 25, 1951 in Selma, Texas. Together they spent the next 40 years welcoming into the world 10 children, sharing a million smiles, and living a lifetime of memories until his passing on November 13, 1991.

Those who knew Isabel best will remember a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, who was diligent in her faith and support of those she loved. Isabel had an altar in her home that she would pray at daily for her family, friends, and those in need. Even when she couldn’t kneel any longer, she still stood at her altar to pray. Isabel was as dedicated member of the St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Converse, where she regularly attended Catholic Mass, until she physically couldn’t attend any longer. Isabel enjoyed taking care of her home, raising gardens, and tending to her flowers. In her later years, some of her greatest joys came from her beloved dog, Champion.

Isabel is survived by her children, Rosa Adamez and husband Fernando, of Cibolo, Raymond Alvarado and wife Linda, of San Antonio, Angie Alcoser and husband Chris, of San Antonio, Rudy Alvarado, of Converse, Terry Lozada and husband Joe, of La Vernia, Hope Alva and husband Richard, of Converse, Marianna Leal and husband Gilbert, of Universal City, Carmen Alvarado of Converse, and Elvia Wilkerson and husband Greg, of Converser; one sister, Maria Garza; one brother, Cruz Garcia; by 16 grandchildren; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Alvarado, Jr.; one brother, Juan Garcia; and two sisters, Pauline Garza and Conception Alvarado.
