Herbert A. Schulke, Jr. was born in New Ulm, MN on November 12, 1923 to Herbert A. Schulke and Alice Stinson Schulke. He briefly attended the University of North Dakota but received his PHD at the University of Illinois. He graduated West Point in 1946 and began a 31 year career in the military, specializing in Electrical Engineering and becoming a part of the Signal Corps. he served in Vietnam from 1964-1965 and retired from the service in December, 1974. In January, 1975 Herbert Schulke Jr. became Executive Director of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics where he remained until 1997 when he left to become the Vice President of Telecommunications for Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1984, he retired from Chase to open his own company, Aero-TELE-Comp, Inc. His one passion was flying and at one time started his own flying club, the Monmouth Area Flying Club.
Herbert is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Delores Schulke, his parents, and one sister, Barbara Tewell. He is survived by, his sons, Herbert A. Schulke III , Judd B. Schulke and wife Beverly, and two grandchildren, Heather and Peter. Herbert would like to be remembered as a member of the Long Grey Line, who served the United States, the Army and the people he loved, lived and worked with as a "good soldier". Services will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
