Guadalupe Garcia Gomez was born January 28, 1943, in San Antonio, TX. The Lord called her home on January 23, 2025, a few days short of her 82nd birthday. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David A. Gomez, Sr., her parents, Raymond Ledesma Garcia and Augustina Leos Garcia, and her brothers, Richard Garcia (2) and David Garcia (newborn).
She is survived by her three children, David Gomez, Jr. (wife Kennedy Gomez, children Olivia Claire Gomez and Joseph Alexander Gomez), Mary Helen Gomez Solis (sons Emilio Gomez Solis, III, and David Gomez Solis, III), and Mary Elizabeth Wehman (husband Victor Wehman, son Brandon Sherman Matthias Wehman).
Also surviving her are her siblings: Raymond Leos Garcia, Jr., Dr. Pete Garcia, Oralia Rummage, Rosamaria Hanna, Daniel Leos Garcia, and Magdalena Frein. She is further survived by her godchildren, Teresa Aguilar Soto, Franklin Raymond Hanna, Jr., and Madison Gabriel Mitchell. She touched the lives of many other cherished family members, friends (particularly her dear friend, Robbie Hayes), co-workers, and the Army Residence Community members she served.
Guadalupe graduated from Edgewood High School, Class of 1961, where she met her sweetheart and future husband, David Gomez, Sr., with whom she attended the Senior Prom. She married her one and only true love on July 12, 1964, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX, and they remained married for 55 wonderful years. She fully supported her husband for twenty-one years as his military spouse, ready to serve whatever his mission called for. She accompanied him to Scott AFB, IL; waited one year in San Antonio, TX (first Vietnam tour); Kelly AFB, TX; waited another year in San Antonio (2nd Vietnam tour); KI Sawyer AFB, MI; Randolph AFB, TX; Altus AFB, OK; Grand Forks AFB, ND; and Zweibrϋcken AB, Germany. Lupe also supported David during his 22 years of service with Fort Sam Houston, ISD. They retired to the San Antonio area in 1985, where they remained since. David kept his promise to buy Lupe a house in the brand-new Converse neighborhood. Lupe worked in housekeeping at La Quinta, Comfort Inn, and the Army Residence Community for many years. Lupe enjoyed her remaining years caring for and spoiling her beloved grandchildren and pets. They proudly paid off their mortgage before David's passing--a major accomplishment!
Lupe was blessed with the gift of caring for others. She went above and beyond loving and caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren. They were always her #1 priority. Growing up as the oldest child, she was tasked with caring for all of her younger siblings.
Lupe enjoyed her favorite past time-talking to all her closest acquaintances on the telephone. She was a superb cook, who could have had a top-notch restaurant!
Lupe took her role as a mother very seriously, raising her children strictly and instilling good morals, values, manners, and love for the Lord. She was so very sad to lose her husband in December 2019. We can take comfort in knowing her soul is now in paradise with our Father God, and our Savior, Jesus Christ; her beloved husband, David; and all her relatives who passed away before her. May her memory live on in our hearts forever, and may we treasure the love she gave so generously.
