Gonzalo Valdez Reyna, born on July 18,1931 in Brownsville, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the age of 88. Gonzalo proudly served his country for over 23 years in the United States Army. He retired with an Honorable Discharge as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer with the rank of Sergeant First Class/ E7. His assignments included: Okinawa, Japan; Fort Chaffee, Arkansas; Darmstadt, Germany and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Deployment : 1968 - 1969 Republic of Vietnam (Indochina ); Pleiku; Cam Ranh Bay; Camp Enari.
Gonzalo was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente Reyna and Guadalupe Banda; brother, Estevan Castillo; daughter Nancy Reyna; son Anthony Reyna; granddaughter, Andrea Reyna and grandsons, Marcus Reyna and Jared Pompeo.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Elida Martinez Reyna; his sons, Rudy Reyna, wife Ester; and Raymond Reyna, wife Patricia; his daughters Elida Wright, husband Gregory, Guadalupe Reyna-Guerra, husband Shelby, and Kayla Reyna; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 4 great - great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Gonzalo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, soldier and friend.
The Visitation will be held at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Friday, July 3, 2020 and it will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the Holy Rosary to be recited and Prayer Service to be held at 3:00 p.m. Gonzalo will be Inurned at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
