Glen Dick

Glen Edward Dick, age 77, of Windcrest, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Glen was born on April 27, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to the late George Edward and Helen Virginia Jackson Dick.  Though Glen was born in Detroit, one of two children, the family quickly moved to Mayfield, Kentucky at a very different time in history.  One funny story Glen liked to tell was of riding his tricycle through the drying houses where they were drying tabaco leaves.  Glen would ride fearlessly through the smoke with a smile ear to ear.

Glen graduated from Cahokia High School in Cahokia, Illinois in 1962 where he was ever the ladies’ man, athlete, and leader of his graduating class, serving on the student body leadership team. Following high school, Glen attended college and quickly began working at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company – a job that quickly turned into a 30-year career.  Glen worked his way through the company at many different jobs and levels, served as an educator for the trade school, and eventually retired from Southwestern Bell in 1993 as a Second Level Manager.

Glen married the love of his life, and his best friend, Elizabeth Abbott, on January 5, 1999 at the Chapel of the Bells Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada – a trip that was planned as a “one last trip” for Elizabeth’s ailing brother.  During the planning of the trip, on a neighborhood bar stool, Glen slyly told Elizabeth “they may as well get married while they’re there”.  Those who knew Glen best can guess the humor in his voice at how he swept his beloved, soon-to-be bride, off her feet.

Glen was a hardworking man, a consummate provider.  While his kids were growing up, he missed countless events working to provide the best he could.  Some may joke that Glen is the only person to retire with perfect attendance.  In his free time, Glen loved playing cards, specifically poker, and entertaining his many friends.  Playing pool and Friday poker nights were staples at Glen’s home.  Glen will forever be remembered for the love he had for his family, the hard work he instilled in those around him, and the dry, but extremely funny sense of humor that so many knew and loved.

Glen is survived by his wife Elizabeth, children Paul Edward Dick of Windcrest, Kelley Marie Sparks, and husband Jon Wayne, of Spring, Texas, and Kimberly Ann Hetzel of Humble; step-daughter, Stephanie Renee West of Crosby, Texas; sister, Louise Hoffman of Dupo, Illinois; grandchildren, Tommy Hetzel, and wife Vanessa, Rachel Dawson, Connor Brinkley, Tyler Gonzales, Kamryn Tickner, and Dawn Marie Dawson; great-grandson, Gavin; and by a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very special friends.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents and two infant children, Joseph Dick and Denise Dick.

Funeral services for Glen Edward Dick will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 11, 2021 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Diebold officiating.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park with Connor Brinkley, Tyler Gonzales, Tommy Hetzel, Jakob Hoffman, Jarod Hoffman, and Spencer Stubbs, III serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. – 11 A.M., Friday morning, at the funeral home.
