Elmer Lee Howard, was called to Heaven on August 29, 2019 at the age of 89. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eli Howard and Katherine Lee Howard; siblings, Melvin, Elenna and Lorraine. He is survived by his wife, Soterania Howard; children, Rosie Ann Howard, Michael Howard (Maribel) and Kimberly Sanchez (Kenneth); grandchildren, Madeline Ramos, Kristine Ramos, Evelyn Sanchez, Olivia Sanchez and Ronin Sanchez; sister, Lorna May; brother, Norman Lee.
Elmer was born and raised in Paradise, California, where he was the eldest of six siblings. As a child, he liked to fish and hunt pheasants in his pastime. As a young adult, he spent time with siblings by taking them out on nature walks and to the train station where his father Eli worked. His father was proud of his children and presented them to his coworkers during these visits.
He served honorably for 20 years in the U.S. ARMY and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Elmer was a Supply Sergeant and oversaw ordering, maintaining and delivering aircraft equipment. He took pride in his job and was often commended on his work by his superiors.
Elmer touched many lives during his time on Earth and will be remembered by his family and friends as a great man, a caring sibling, a devoted husband, and a loving father. He is truly loved and will be missed by us all.
The Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Chapel Hill Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd, San Antonio, TX 78239 with a Rosary from 7:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. The procession to the FT. Sam Houston National Cemetery will depart from Chapel Hill on Friday, September 6, at 8:30 a.m.
