Dorothy Riley

Dorothy Louise Riley passed away peacefully in her home on May 1, 2018 in Converse, TX at the age of 84.

Dorothy was born on August 23, 1933 in Highland Township, Franklin County, Indiana to Sarah Elizabeth and Robert Louis Smith. She was the tenth of twelve children. She married Granville Robert Riley in 1950 and was married for 28 years. They had six daughters.

Dorothy was a Christian woman who possessed a quiet but firm spirituality. She modeled valuable lessons for her family including: treat others as you would want to be treated, say “I love you” sincerely and often, and follow your heart. She was a generous and witty woman who deeply loved, and was loved by, her family. She was known for her feisty humor, encouragement, and fierce love.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Donna Ritchie, Connie Wagner, Karen Tafreshi and her husband Mansour, Brenda Ruth and her husband Jimmy, Carrol Short and her husband Steve, and Sarah Grote and her husband Russell; siblings, Jim Smith and his wife Maria, June Turco and her husband Joe, and Claudia Hertel and her husband Melvin; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Lettie Powers, Leonard (Dutch) Smith, Osceola (Osie) Browning, Audrey Powers, Leona Allen, Forest Smith, Patricia Smith, and William (Bill) Smith.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 12:00 pm, both at Chapel Hill Memorial Park  and Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd., San Antonio, TX 78239.
