Conrad A. Herrera, 53, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at his childhood home in San Antonio. A devoted husband and father, a loyal son and brother, a caring godfather, uncle and friend, he will be remembered for his lighthearted manner and happy nature, his easygoing personality and good humor.
Conrad was born on November 23, 1971, in Jourdanton, Texas, to Samuel and Nelida Herrera. He graduated in 1990 from Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio. During his years at Lee High School, he played the saxophone in the marching band and met the love of his life, Janice Marie Vasquez. After graduation, Conrad attended ITT Technical Institute, where he earned an associate's degree, then continued his education at San Antonio College.
He worked as a computer networking technician, but his most significant jobs were being a husband and dad.
On October 18, 2003, Conrad married Janice at St. Mary Magdalen Church. In 2006 they welcomed their daughter Madison Samantha. In 2010, their son Coen Ashton was born. Conrad enjoyed fatherhood and spent the next few years planning birthday parties, creating karaoke playlists, creating elaborate video montages, coordinating family Halloween costumes, coaching soccer teams and spending time poolside with his beloved family in their Northern Hills home.
After years battling the aftereffects of strokes and many hospitalizations, Conrad entered hospice in January 2025. He died peacefully, surrounded by family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Janice Marie Herrera; daughter Madison Samantha, 18; son Coen Ashton, 14; parents Samuel and Nelida Herrera, brother Richard (Melinda) Mendez, sisters Natalie (Armando) Maldonado and Mona Lee (Enrique) Ramirez, and nephews Raoul Ramirez, Rene Tijerina, Aaron Maldonado, Michael Maldonado, Justin Mendez, Steven Mendez, Enrique Gael Ramirez II, and nieces Amy Mendez and Sophia Ramirez. He is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Simon Tostado Aldana and Francisca Ramos Aldana, paternal grandparents Nicasio Herrera and Elvira Gonzalez Herrera and several aunts and uncles.
A family viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 16 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Road in San Antonio. Friends will be received at 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. and a gathering in his honor from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
