Cam V Trần was born on January 15, 1930 in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam and passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 14, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tường V Trần and Dam T Pham, his brother Hản V Trần, and his sister Mỹ Xuân Trần and her husband Bành Phi Long. He is survived by his wife Yến Bach Trần, his brother Hiển V Tran, his children and their spouses (16), grandchildren (26), great grandchildren (2) and nieces and nephews (10).
Growing up during the beginning of the Indochina War, and having lost his father in his teenage years, Cam learned about “Responsibility” very early in life. To support his widowed Mother and 3 younger siblings, he enlisted in the National Army in 1950. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 1972, and had held multiple leadership and commanding positions throughout his Military career.
He married his wife of 69 years, Yến Bach Trần in 1952 and became father of his first child in 1953.
During the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, he was separated from his wife and 9 children. After spending 13 years in the North Vietnamese re-education camp, he joined his family in San Antonio, Texas in 1991.
He spent his last 30 years enjoying his time with family and friends, watching his grandchildren grow, and living his new American life. He enjoyed sports, playing some soccer and tennis in his younger days, and love eating fried chicken and drinking his preferred beverage - Budweiser. His favorite games are MaJong and Sudoku.
Cam has lived an honorable life holding up to his values of integrity, responsibility and commitment as he was taught in the military. We lost a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and “brother in arms”, but the image of him with a big smile and an ever-happy face will remain in our heart forever.
The funeral service will be held at 10am Wednesday January 20, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the family has chosen to limit the service only to family members. Please visit our website to access the live stream link.
