Rev. Bruce Craig Williamson

October 10, 1953 — March 21, 2025

San Antonio

Rev. Williamson, Bruce C. If you’ve ever felt compelled to sing a silly song, do it. Consider: Bruce Craig Williamson, a boisterous character full of whimsy, who entered eternal life on Friday, March 21, 2025. His spirit is carried on by his wife, three children, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one surviving sister, and extended family of relations and friends from all walks of life. We were blessed to share life and learn from Bruce, a constant teacher, during his 71 years of life. He was a scholarly fellow, with a bachelor’s in Speech and two master degrees - Religious Ed. and Family Psych. which he used at every step of his 30+ years of ministry. His life was gladly spent ministering to others, and always ready to instruct. His fatherly lessons were many and often unsolicited, among them: Be silly. Bellow random, made-up songs sung off-key about people getting “bad bug bites” or twinkling stars. Be present on the water. Float on your back and sail a boat. Champion the arts. See people and the world through the lens of a camera (and develop the film yourself) or a paintbrush. If your kids get bored just tell them “art, music, literature.” Love dogs. For “Dogliness is next to Holiness.” Work hard. Prepare, be excellent, and always give it your best. Embrace diversity. Eat plenty of Mexican food, go to Mexico, and learn Spanish. Love to read and be a lifelong learner. Be addicted to education, and earn multiple degrees for the fun of it. Be generous with what you learn. Exemplify a walking encyclopedia and lover of words, but best to teach theology, politics, and English as a Second Language. For those of us who took his lessons to heart, we learned above all to find the love and grace of God everywhere. How to see it in music, poetry, in paintings, and in the orchids. And to always visit your mother.

He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild who he would never miss an opportunity to brag on: Elizabeth (his wife he adored above all else for over 51 years of marriage); Vicki (husband James, child Tristan, and grandchild Luke); Philip (wife Juana, children Brianna and Riley); Steven (wife Heather, children Kayley, Kaidence, and Kaitlyn); sibling Diane Paterson (husband Tom, children Roy, Janice, Christine, and Sharon); Gary Butler (best man and dear friend); and many more friends too numerous to count but not forgotten. Bruce is reunited with his father, Albert Williamson; mother, Jane Williamson; younger brother, Mark Williamson; and his favorite dog, Wrinkles. Friends (and strangers he would have loved to meet) can virtually gather and celebrate his life where stories and love will be shared at http://jesusspirituality.com In Bruce’s memory, donations can be made and/or flowers sent to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, San Antonio, TX
