Bonnie Elmira Carter (McKimmy) gently passed away on December 28th, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 84 surrounded by her family. Bonnie was born the tenth of twelve children on February 16, 1931, in Newton, Illinois to Clarence and Gladys McKimmy. Bonnie enjoyed working at the Sugar Bowl Diner in Robinson, Illinois before marrying Clarence Carter on February 27, 1954. Clarence and Bonnie enjoyed a 24 year adventure in the United States Army before settling in Texas. Bonnie was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by many. Bonnie enjoyed oil painting, reading and sewing in her spare time. She was an active and dedicated member of Goodwill United Methodist Church while she resided in Sedalia, Mo. Bonnie is survived by Clarence Carter, her loving and devoted husband of 61 years and who cared for her during her long battle with dementia. She is also survived by her children Joan Carter; Patricia Holman and husband, Richard; and Mark Carter. Bonnie was preceded in death by her son James Carter. Bonnie has five grandchildren who adored her: Milicent, Lauren, Robert, Charlotte, and Kyle. She is also survived by her only other living sibling, Mary Mechling of Shumway, Illinois. A funeral will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd., San Antonio, Tx 78239, at 10:00 AM, January 6th, 2016. Burial will take place at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery following the service. All are welcome to attend to help celebrate Bonnie's life. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and staff at Parklane West Healthcare for the excellent care Bonnie received while she was in their care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Bonnie's name.
