The Lord called Benito Cantu, Jr. home suddenly on September 03, 2018 while kayaking at Lake Beorne, TX. Benito Cantu, Jr. was born in Fort Campbell, KY to the late Melva Guerra from Saginaw, MI and Benito Cantu, Sr. from Harlingen, TX. He was affectionally called Benny, Ben Jr, or Junior by his family and friends but also took on the nicknames Benny Blanco and Pablo from those he chummed with. His step-parents are Sylvia (Pena) Cantu (Benito Cantu) and Sam Zerka (Melva Guerra).
Benito is survived by his wife Patricia (Gutierrez) Cantu, whom he has known since he was 14 and she was 12. They met in Saginaw, MI. They were introduced by Benito's brother-in-law and good friend Michael Gutierrez. They married in Las Vegas, NV in March, 2018 and resided in San Antonio, TX. He also leaves his loving nine year old daughter Penelope Faith Cantu and two step-sons David (Gutierrez) Segura (19) and Rico Gutierrez (23).
Also surviving are two sisters, Sabrina Cantu Guerra Burda and Christina Ann Cantu; three brothers, Marcus Pena, Saleem Zerka and Nazeer Zerka and one granddaughter, Sophia Gutierrez. His nieces and nephews are Demitri Cantu Johnson, Isabella Burda, Bryce Burda and Becca Burda. He loved his many aunts, uncles, and cousins but especially sought guidance and counseling from his Aunt Marta (Cantu) Sanchez and cousin Melissa Guerra both of whom he spoke to for countless hours. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Tina Flores (Daniel), brother-in-law John Ortiz, mother-in-law and step father-in-law Francisca and John Ortiz, along with his father-in-law Patricio Campos. His grandparents, Ignacio and Maria (Trevino) Cantu residing in Saginaw, MI are also surviving.
His family church is Restoration Christian Church led by Pastor Lugo. Benito was proud of being the president and CEO of his own company, Mid-Michigan Medical Staffing Services. He read many books on business, history and world cultures. He loved to travel domestically and abroad, and visited places like Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, and Spain. Whether it be pool, pond, river, lake or ocean, if there was water he sought to swim in it. He enjoyed working on handy projects, like building ponds, home improvements and was certificated in horticulture and landscaping. Neighbors say he spoiled his dog, Luna.
