Obituary

Amir Arian aka Seyed Mojtaba Mehdi Eslam, age 74, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital North East on August 4, 2024 after a year long battle with brain cancer. Known to his family and closest friends as Moji, Mojtaba fought cancer bravely and was a champion until his very last breath. Born in Tehran, Iran, on December 24, 1949, Mojtaba was a loving father, loyal friend, and lifelong learner.

Mojtaba was a graduate of Bamdad High School in Tehran, Iran. When he arrived in the United States he studied at San Antonio College and St. Phillip’s college. He also lived in Mexico and studied surgical medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His dream was to become a surgeon and deliver babies and he used his medical knowledge to care for his darling daughter BB who was born with special needs. He was unable to complete medical school but he was able to use his knowledge to improve BB’s quality of life. Mojtaba was fluent in multiple languages such as Farsi, Arabic, English, and Spanish. He also loved to travel and would often visit family around the world. He lived in Manila, the capital of the Philippines where he picked up Tagalog.

Mojtaba was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a medic and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and Fort Sam Houston in Texas. Mojtaba became a U.S. citizen through the naturalization process at the age of 37 on June 19, 1986. Mojtaba was also very generous to the poor and needy and gave many gifts multiple times a year. He also worked for ARROW Cab company and tried to make conditions better for his fellow drivers. He was a talented cook, especially making Khoobideh kebabs, Ghormeh Sabzi, and other delicious Persian dishes. He had his own food truck business and received a pastry chef certification and made the most delicious cakes and desserts.

Mojtaba was a music aficionado and played multiple instruments including the oud, piano, and violin. He enjoyed reading and studying sheet music, attending music lessons, and performing with friends across Texas. Mojtaba was a huge fan of mariachi music and would fill in on occasion for a local mariachi band. He was blessed with many great music instructors through the years. In his final years Mojtaba enjoyed studying chiropractic medicine and acupuncture, cooking Persian food, and spending time with friends and family. After his brain cancer diagnosis in July of 2023, Mojtaba endured radiation, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Through his suffering and pain Mojtaba remained patient, kind, and hopeful. His loving daughter Daria stood by his side until his very last day.

Mojtaba now joins his beloved sister, Esmat, his eldest brother Amir, and his cherished parents, Seyed Abbas Mehdi-Eslam and Zahra Ebrahimi, in eternal peace. His memory lives on in the hearts of his loving family: his precious and most beloved daughters Daria Zahra Valdez and Bianca Beatrice Sadat Mehdi-Wood. His legacy continues through his brothers, Morteza, Reza, and Mohsen. nephews Mohammad, Abbas, Ehsan, Shahram, and Homayun, nieces Zohre, Azadeh, and Maryam and many extended family members. Mojtaba was well-loved and will be deeply missed by all his friends and family across the United States and Iran.
