Adolfo L. Cristo Jr. was called into eternal rest on Thursday August 29, 2013. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann Cristo. Adolfo is survived by his three sisters, Lupe, Yolanda and Gloria. He is also survived by his six children and their spouses, Christopher, Adolph, Anthony, Sarah, Andrew and Stephen. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. By his side was the woman he cherished and loved, Adela Posey, who will miss him dearly.
Adolfo was born August 25, 1944 in a small home on the west side of San Antonio to WWII veteran Adolfo L. Cristo Sr. and Carolina Sanchez. He began working at 12 years of age and continued doing so while earning his high school diploma from Fox Tech High School on May 28, 1962. At seventeen years of age, he got his mother to enlist him into the United States Army where he served honorably for two years. After being honorably discharged in 1963 he went on to a career in the US Postal Service where he ascended to Fleet Operations Analyst before retiring in 1992.
It was while working at the Postal Service that he met and fell in love with Elizabeth Ann Douglas. The two eloped in 1967 and were married in the Roman Catholic Church a few years later. Together they birthed and raised five sons and a daughter. Their marriage lasted until Elizabeth's untimely death in 1999.
Adolfo continued his education after leaving the Post Office and eventually earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002. While beginning graduate courses towards a Masters degree, Adolfo started his new career as an adjunct professor at Saint Phillip's College where he taught reading and worked in the reading lab. He was set to begin the Fall 2013 school year when he fell ill unexpectedly and passed away two weeks later from the illness. Adolfo will be greatly missed by family, friends, students and colleagues.
"Everyday is important because you are paying a big price, a day of your life." ~ Adolfo L. Cristo Jr.
