Larry Andrew Dunn, Sr., age 89, of Kingsland, Texas, passed away peacefully in the late afternoon hours of Monday, January 13, 2020 at Kingsland Hill Care Center in Kingsland, with his beloved family by his side. Larry was born on December 2, 1930 in Woodsboro, Texas to the late Oscar James and Marie Ethel (Dunn) Dunn.
Larry married the love of his life and his best friend, Janie Marie Engelking, on March 16, 1963 at Peace Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas. Together they have shared nearly 57 years of raising children and grandchildren and living a lifetime of memories that will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
In his younger years, Larry worked as a car man for the railroad where he tended to the needed repairs of the railroad cars. Following his time with the railroad, Larry became active in real estate and began a family business in the Automatic Door Company – a business that has now passed through three generations and is currently operating as Dunn Construction Company.
Larry was an active member, usher and Home Ministries Leader at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and Boerne, Texas and an active member of the Christian Worship Center in Kingsland, Texas. When he wasn’t spending time with his family, Larry enjoyed participating in numerous activities with the Lakeside Heights Homeowners Association in Kingsland, Texas.
Larry survived by his wife, Marie, of Kingsland; sons, Larry Dunn, Jr., and wife Brenda, of Round Rock, Texas and Eddie Dunn, and wife Laura, of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Melissa Dunn Powell of Kingsland; sisters, Dorothy Holder of Boerne, Mary Catherine Heye of San Antonio, and Alice “Pinkie” Duncan of Boerne; by 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.
Larry was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Dunn, Patrick Dunn, Michael Dunn, and Steve Dunn; sisters, Anne Goforth and Ida Moore; and by one great-grandson, Joel Skelton.
Funeral services for Larry Andrew Dunn, Sr. will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 20, 2020 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in San Antonio with Pastor Travis Gunn officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends with a light reception beginning at 9:30 A.M., Monday morning, at the funeral home.
